Yes, you wish and you dream with all your little heart. But you remember, Tiana, that old star can only take you part of the way. You got to help him with some hard work of your own. And then… Yeah, you can do anything you set you mind to. Just promise your Daddy one thing? That you’ll never, ever lose sign what is really important. Okay?
Princess and the Frog, Disney 2009
How can this be related to nursing? Well, while watching the movie recently with my niece, I heard this line and thought that it reflects nursing school perfectly. Some of my peers had been dreaming of being a nurse all their lives, some wanted to enact change, make a difference, save a life. I think it’s important to remember that wanting something with all your might isn’t all it’ll take for someone to finish nursing school. One has to work hard, put in the effort while never, never, forgetting the dream. Nurses learn theories, skills, techniques and an assortment of other things during nursing school. It’s difficult and challenging more often than not, but, in the end, nurses graduate with the knowledge, skills and judgement they need to fulfill their nursing dreams.
As someone once said to me: Stay golden! ;)
